COLGATE WOMEN'S GAMES RULES AND REGULATIONS
IMPORTANT, PLEASE READ. TO PROCEED TO THE ENTRY FORM, CLICK "CONTINUE" BELOW.

Prizes will be awarded for places 1 through 6 in each preliminary meet, the semi-finals and finals. Educational grants-in-aid will be awarded to the three competitors who earn the greatest number of points in each divisional event for all of these meets. Therefore, while a competitor can compete in any single event, she should compete in all of them to accumulate the most possible points toward an educational grant.

Competitors may compete in two events in each of four preliminaries, but in only one event in the semi-finals and finals.

Finalists will be required to submit a copy of their school attendance record and an essay of 150 words or less to the Meet Director in order to be eligible for educational grants.

Competition in the Elementary A and B, Mid-School and High School Division is open to girls in grades 1 to 12. (See grade assignments on reverse side under Schedule.) The College/Open Division is open to female college students and nonstudents under 30. The 30s Plus Division is open to women 30 years of age and over.
The events and divisions of competition are as follows:
There are four preliminary track meets. A competitor is eligible for and should participate in all four preliminary meets to accumulate the most possible points. There is one semi-final and one final meet.
A competitor may enter two events in each of the preliminary meets. Points scored in one event may not be totaled with points scored in another. However, a competitor may only compete in one event - the same one - in the semi-finals and finals. Thus, if a competitor scores enough points to qualify for the semi-finals in each event she enters, she must choose only one in which to compete in the semi-finals and finals.
Elementary A competitors (enrolled in 1st through 3rd grades) may only compete in that division for four years.
Elementary B competitors (enrolled in 4th through 5th grades) may only compete in that division for three years.
A junior high school or mid-school competitor (enrolled in 6th through 8th grades) may only compete in that division for four years.
A high school competitor (enrolled in 8th through 12th grades) may only compete in that division for five years.
All other competitors who are not attending school in the 1st through 12th grades as listed above, irrespective of age or school affiliation, must compete in the College/Open or Colgate 30s Plus Division.

Through the preliminary meets, points are to be scored for places 1 through 12 in each event as follows:

In events run around the track, point scorers will be decided on a timed basis after all sections have been run.

In events run on the straightaway, point scorers in places 7 through 12 will be awarded on a timed basis also after the final that day.

A maximum of twelve point scorers in each event at the end of the preliminary meets will be invited to compete in their respective event in the semi-finals. Points are to be scored for places 1 through 6 in each event in the semi-finals as follows:

After the semi-finals, the top six point scorers in each event will be invited to compete in the finals.

Points are to be scored for places 1 through 6 in each event in the finals as follows:

At the conclusion of the final meet, points scored by a competitor in a single event in the Colgate Women's Games will be totaled (i.e., points scored in the event by the competitor in the four preliminary meets, the semi-final, and the final will be added together). The competitor who has the greatest total score in any one event (the most points earned in the event in the preliminaries, semi-final and final), will receive an educational grant-in-aid of $1,000. The competitor with the second most points in each event in each division will receive a $500 educational grant-in-aid. The competitor with the third most points in each event in each division will receive a $250 educational grant-in-aid. The funds will be given by Colgate-Palmolive Company to an institution of learning for the academic, vocational or professional education of each winner. The institution will be designated by the recipient. The grant-in-aid is not transferable by the recipient and may be used only for her individual education.
In case of a points tie at the finals, the higher trophy will be awarded for the best performance on the finals date.
All decisions regarding eligibility and awards will be made by the Meet Director (Mr. Thompson).
Any competitor found competing in the wrong school division shall be disqualified from the competition at any stage in the competition that such infraction is determined.
If a competitor proceeds through the finals of the competition and it is subsequently determined that she has competed in the wrong school division, all prizes, grants-in-aid and awards are automatically revoked.
Prizes will be awarded for places 1 through 6 in the preliminary meets, semi-finals and finals.
All protests must be in writing and handed to the Meet Director and Referee (Mr. Thompson) or Assistant Meet Directors (Mr. Ring or Ms. Eason) within 15 minutes of an alleged infraction.
Judges' decisions are final.
SPECIAL AWARDS
- The Fred Thompson Trophy - to the most improved competitor
- The Bill Cosby Trophy - to the outstanding competitor at Pratt
- The Donna de Varona Trophy - to the most promising newcomer
- The Jackie Joyner-Kersee Trophy - to the outstanding competitor at Madison Square Garden
